SGV FORWARD: CONNECTING COMMUNITIES

The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG), in partnership with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro), has completed a multi-year Transit Feasibility Study. This comprehensive effort established the foundation for a transformative long-term vision to improve mobility, accessibility, and connectivity across the San Gabriel Valley.

The San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments (SGVCOG) – in partnership with Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro), has completed a multi-year transit feasibility study that shaped a new plan to improve mobility in the San Gabriel Valley. The current phase, known as SGV Forward, will focus on delivering improvements along key corridors through new bus lanes, improved traffic signals, and upgraded bus stops.

These changes are designed to make transit more reliable and easier to use for everyone, especially those who depend on transit for daily travel such as households without access to a car, low income, senior, and youth populations.

Improved public transit is essential for access to jobs, schools, healthcare, and daily life.

SGV Forward is the first step toward a stronger, more connected transit network across the San Gabriel Valley.

PROJECT STATUS

SGVCOG completed Phase 2 of the San Gabriel Valley Transit Feasibility Study in February 2024. This phase included additional input from community members and local stakeholders and led to a set of recommended transit service improvements for both short-term and long-term implementation.

The improvements are phased in three timelines:

  • Jump Start Projects

  • Mid Term Plan

  • Long Term Vision Plan

The current effort, known as SGV Forward, builds on the completed study and focuses on early demonstration projects identified as Jump Start Projects. SGVCOG and LA Metro are working together to secure additional funding and implement transit improvements ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. There is future funding available to refine these demonstration transit projects into more robust transit service and amenities.

Upcoming Community Meetings
In-person community meetings will be held in Fall and Winter 2025 in Monterey Park, Rosemead, El Monte, South El Monte, and Pomona. These meetings will give residents an opportunity to learn more about the projects and share feedback.
