State housing law (RHNA) requires that local jurisdictions plan for future population growth and provide housing for all income levels. This has been a major challenge for the San Gabriel Valley, a region that is largely built out. The SGVCOG has actively worked to ensure that member agencies are able to comply with this State mandate through a process that is as equitable as possible and responsive to transportation and other infrastructure investments. In 2008, the SGVCOG also partnered with the County of Los Angeles to complete a regional homeless services needs assessment. Since that time, the SGVCOG has been working with member agencies to identify the most effective strategies to address this issue.
Completed a regional homeless services needs assessment
Increased city-level participation in the LAHSA homeless count
Increasing funding for affordable housing projects that benefit San Gabriel Valley residents
Increasing compliance with State mandates and goals associated with affordable housing
Increasing awareness and utilization of homeless services, programs and funding provided by LA County and other agencies
