President, San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments

SGVCOG President Cynthia Sternquist has been serving the City of Temple City with distinction since 1991. She has previously served on the Temple City Parks and Recreation Commission and the Temple City Planning Commission prior to serving on the Temple City City Council. In 2015, President Sternquist was honored by Congresswoman Judy Chu as the 2015 Woman of Distinction. She was also honored as a Woman of Achievement by the Business Life Magazine in 2017. In April 2017, she became SGVCOG’s President.

Under President Sternquist’s leadership, the SGVCOG successfully executed a smooth transition of integrating the Alameda Corridor-East (ACE) Construction Authority into the agency, facilitated the update of the SGVCOG Strategic Plan, and led the initiatives to launch the San Gabriel Valley Regional Housing Trust and the GoSGV Regional Bikeshare Program.

Aside from her involvements in the SGVCOG, President Sternquist also serves as the Chair of the Foothill Transit Executive Board, a Director of the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, a member of the SCAG Transportation Committee, and a 5th District County Representative as appointed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

President Sternquist has been happily married to her college sweetheart for 43 years and has two grown children, Britni and Braxton, and three dogs named Max, Lily, and Kingsley. She enjoys reading, gardening, and bike-riding.
