About Us: Major Accomplishments

1994- Present

Transportation

The passage of state legislation (SB 1847 Schiff) and subsequent formation of the Pasadena Blue Line Construction Authority to build the 13.6 mile Metro Gold Line light rail from Downtown Los Angeles to Pasadena on time and under budget. This project resulted in $850 million in local, state and federal funds to support the project.

The formation of the Alameda Corridor East Construction Authority to construct grade separations for busy intersections of rail and vehicular traffic. This included federal legislation that recognized the SGVCOG as the primary organization guiding this effort, and it resulted in $1.2 billion in federal, state and local funding for this project.

The formation of a Metro West San Gabriel Valley Sector Governance Council to represent the transit and transportation needs of the West San Gabriel Valley to the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The purpose of this initiative was to improve bus service to the 8 SGV cities not served by Foothill Transit.

Environment & Open Space

The passage of state legislation (SB 216 Solis) and subsequent formation of the San Gabriel and Lower Los Angeles Rivers and Mountains Conservancy by state legislation for planning and funding of open space in this urban region. This was that first State conservancy since 1965 and is the nation's largest urban conservancy. Since its creation, the Conservancy has received more than $50 million in federal, state and local funds to protect open space in the San Gabriel Valley.

The passage of Proposition A that resulted in the allocation of more than $50 million in Los Angeles County Park Bond monies to 22 cities in the San Gabriel Valley to support the development of park sites and recreation facilities. Most notable projects completed with this funding include the expansion of Smith Park in San Gabriel, El Monte Aquatic Center, Bonita High School Athletic Complex, and the Glendora Teen Center, to name a few.

The construction of electric vehicle charging stations along the 210, 20 and 60 corridors with grant funding worth $500,000.

Leadership Development

The development of the San Gabriel Valley Leadership 21 Program with the USC School of Policy, Planning and Development to educate current and future decision makers on leadership skills and issues impacting the San Gabriel Valley. The SGV raised over $125,000 in funding to sponsor this program.  Over 120 current and future leaders attended this 68 hour training program and were awarded certificates of completion.

Health Care

The expansion of the Air Transport Medivac System to ensure dedicated 24 hour air transport in the East San Gabriel Valley for trauma care with funding from the Proposition B Trauma Care and Emergency Medical Tax passed by voters in Los Angeles County in 2004. This is the first step in ensuring that the SGV received its $36 million share of funding that it currently pays into the County system.
